monsoon season and your child returning to
school

To escape the summer heat, all of us desperately wait for the monsoons
to come early. But we all know, monsoons don’t come alone, they get
along a lot of air borne and water borne diseases putting our little ones
at risk. During this season every parent is worried about their kids falling
sick even more so now because the schools have also just begun, the
best way to at least try and prevent any infection is to give a healthy diet
which is full of vitamins
Apart from a well balanced and healthy diet here are a few things you
can do to keep your child safe

  1. USING ONLY BOILED WATER – We all know most of the
infections travel via water and as much as we think purifier waters
are safe or pure, they are not. Nothing can be as safe as boiled
water. During this season buying drinks from street vendors are a
big no. Only boiled, cooled water at home should be used.
  2. WASH LEAFY VEGETABLES PROPERLY – While we know that
leafy vegetables are healthy, we also know that specially during
monsoons they have a lot of dirt and possibility of worms. Hence,
they should be properly washed as soon as we bring them home
  3. GIVING KIDS A DOSE OF INFLUENZA VACCINE – Influenza is a
viral infection that attacks one’s respiratory system — nose, throat,
and lungs. Influenza is commonly called the flu. People at higher
risk of developing flu complications include young children under
age 5, Adults older than age 65. With kids returning to school and
the beginning of the monsoon season, it is important to understand
on how influenza is different from regular from cold & fever and the
importance of Influenza vaccination. This is something we all
should follow in order to keep our kids protected and safe.
  4. UNCOOKED FOOD IS A BIG NO-NO – Since most of the
diseases we know are water borne so it’s the better to not take any
risk and avoid eating outside or street food. The monsoon creates
a humid atmosphere which is the breeding ground for bacteria so
sticking to home cooked meals is the best idea. Also, along with this make sure to avoid stale food and keep your food covered at all times.
  1. WASHING HANDS AT REGULAR INTERVALS – From kids to
adults, we all are aware of the importance of washing hands and
how it helps prevent so many diseases. Germs on our hands may
lead to a lot of illnesses that we might not be aware of so following
this simple practice protects us and our kids from falling sick often.
  2. CLEANLINESS – It’s important to teach our kids that cleanliness
is the key to avoid all illnesses however it is not restricted to
personal hygiene only. Keeping our surrounding is clean is equally
important. Simple practices can begin from keeping food covered,
not letting water gather at any source and to use mosquito nets at
    home.
  3. WEARING FULL SLEEVED CLOTHES – Monsoons also bring
along a lot of mosquitoes that further leads to so many deadly
diseases. Making kids wear full sleeved cotton clothes would be
the best practice as it would be comfortable on the skin in this
humid weather and also keep them safe from the mosquitoes
