Pollution everywhere, indoors and outdoors

Till almost 5 years back it was all about me. What I would eat, where I would go or even what I would wear. Post becoming a mommy to my beautiful girl it’s all about her and to be honest I just love it. My whole day goes by in a snap planning and thinking all about what’s best for her. Just like me, every parent wants their kids to have the best for their little ones, whether it is diet, or clothes or even the schools they go to. When we can give so much thought while choosing the best for our children, how can we not think about the environment they are living in? Living in a city now has its own perks. Some of you might think it’s best to move to small towns while others might have a totally different take on it. In cities, we have a lot that we can provide our children with. But it also means being surrounded by pollution, both indoors and outdoors.

indoor pollution in delhi

There are days when it gets literally difficult to breathe outside due to the pollution, so we prefer keeping our children in the house. But does that really help? To be very honest it doesn’t. The air quality indoors is probably the same as outdoors or even worse. A research was carried out by Dyson where the filters of air purifiers from Delhi NCR homes were taken and tested to see what was present in them. It showed that every house had more than 100 types of  bacteria that can cause various illnesses. There is a popular belief that air purifiers weaken the immune system if used too much which is absolutely not true. The doctors themselves recommend the same, looking at how bad the air quality is in Delhi lately. When my doctor told me that if we sit near the exhaust of a car, it does not mean that our lungs are getting stronger, I realized that I should provide purified air to my kid whenever I can.

Just around last year, I was battling the same issue and it was then that a friend suggested that I buy an air purifier. After going through all the reviews on different air purifiers I decided to buy a Dyson air purifier.

There were certain great features that made me select this specific air purifier. It oscillates and purifies and warms all the corners of the room properly and can be easily placed in any corner of the room. Since kids have a habit of not staying still in a place and running all around the room, it becomes important for the air purifier to ensure the entire area is being purified and not just a specific corner.  Though there are a lot claims made by lot of purifiers, I feel Dyson air purifier is more effective given its innovative technology and design.

This was also the only air purifier I found with heating functionality which makes it suitable for winters too. Gone are the times when you would require a separate heater. The Dyson air purifier comes with a built in heater that proves to be a blessing when needed.

Not only this, while other purifiers had to be constantly set according to the pollution level, Dyson purifier automatically senses the levels around and is the only purifier which shows live levels for 4 kinds of pollutants. Owning an air purifier, it is very important for one to actually know how well the air purifier is working. It is easy to operate, is bladeless and thus not harmful to kids. It has a sturdy design which again is a must in a household with kids.

There is the Dyson app from where I control all the functions when I am out for some work. I remember a day when I had to rush out for work and had to leave my little one with her grandmother. Even after being out of the house I could control the air purifier on my own which also means i could control the indoor pollution somehow. So now I can easily monitor the air quality in my little one’s room and this keeps me reassured that they are breathing clean air.  The fun part is that it works with Alexa too.

A lot of things in life are more important than we feel they are. Air purifiers are one such thing because no mother would like to compromise with the health of her child after all. For me it’s a long term investment “not an expense”. Clean air not only helps breathe better but also helps in overall development of the child. I took one step forward, when are you taking the same?

Well, I hope you found this to be an interesting read and could relate to the same. If you did then do let me know in the comments below. Also, let me know the ways in which you battle air pollution around you to keep you little ones safe.
