Book review : Shadow in the mirror

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all doing great. Well, if you’ve been following my blog, you would know that I actually promised myself that I would read a book every month in 2021. I did begin with a lot of enthusiasm but kept falling off the track from time to time. But finally I was able to start reading again. Stay tuned as lots of more reviews are to follow post this review.

NAME OF THE BOOK – SHADOW IN THE MIRROR

AUTHOR – DEEPTI MENON

GENRE – ACTION / CRIME & THRILLER

PUBLISHER – READOMANIA

THE PLOT

The story initially begins with the death of a pregnant woman Nita, who falls off her balcony. This is where the plot officially starts taking place from. Her death brings quite some people into the light, namely her father who is beyond heart broken, her husband and last but not the least, a young journalist. Up until now everybody believes that it is a suicide beacuse that it what it seems like. A secret note to the journalist further makes her want to find out the truth. The note tells her it’s a murder. As the story goes by, a few other people namely Roma, Vinny, Krish, Kavita are talked about and you are bound to wonder about how all of them are connected to Nita.

MY THOUGHTS

As I read the book I was surprised by how well the narrative has been presented. There are numerous sub plots in the story and initially I was also wondering where is it all going through. But Now when I’m writing the review for the same, each and every sub plot took the right place at the right time. There are a lot of elements along with characters in the book that will take the readers by surprise. By the time I reached the end of the book, I was on the edge of my chair. The person who I thought all along would be the murderer was actually not the murderer.

CONCLUDING WORDS

The book for me has been a great read. From the beginning of the story towards the end , one thing I noticed was the depiction of strong women in the story. Whether it was Nita or the journalist, all of them had their own story line to follow but portrayed strong characters individually. I just felt that apart from the main characters, the story does take a too deep intervention in the life of other characters which might want you to take a pause. But would I recommend this book? Yes, I surely would because of how well the plot is set and how it’s not too heavy on your mind in spite of it being a thriller.
