Parenting is tough, there’s no denying that. But it’s also tough to be a kid in today’s overly competitive environment. No one is ever good enough till they get full marks and, even then, there’s always a higher goal to achieve, the list is whatsoever never ending. In their quest to make their child the best of the lot, parents end up saying hurtful things to them. It may be said in anger, without thinking, but children remember this negativity and there are times when its difficult for them to get over it. Something that may seem insignificant to you may have a lasting impact on your child. So, if you’re a parent, please don’t say these things to your child.
“PLEASE STOP ASKING SO MANY QUESTIONS”
I think parents should encourage their kids curiosity,it is their age where they are always so inquisitive about everything around them.Give them the desired answers instead of telling them to shut up.
“BOYS DONT CRY,STOP CRYING,ARE YOU A GIRL?”
Parents should know that gender roles are one of the reasons they grow up this way, and they need to end this terrible cycle.Tell your kids instead that it is equally normal for boys to cry at times as well.It’s not only girls who cry.
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU WANT TO JOIN HOBBY CLASSSES,FOCUS ON YOUR STUDIES INSTEAD”
Parents need to start looking beyond the doctor, engineer, lawyer aims for their children.There are endless proffesions your child can choose from.Instead of trying to push them to study so hard,figure out if they excell at something else.
“WHY CANT YOU BE MORE LIKE YOUR FRIEND?”
A child should be like themselves, not like someone else.Each child has his/her own personality.By comparing your child to others you somewhere put the thought in the child’s mind that there is something not right with them.
“YOUR BROTHER CAN STAY OUT FOR LONG BECAUSE HE IS A BOY.”
How does that even make sense?Being out late at night is equally unsafe for a boy as it is for a girl.Its high time we stop potraying girls as the weaker gender always.If you allow your boys to stay out late ,you should allow your girls to do the same.
“BEHAVE IN A LADY LIKE MANNER”
Encourage your kids to be themselves instead of telling them, from the beginning, that they need to conform to some illogical social norms.There are no scripts that explain the way girls should behave.
“NEVER ANSWER BACK TO YOUR ELDERS”
A child should have their own opinion. And parents should be happy if their child has the confidence to take on someone older than them and make sense while doing it.It is always seen as disrespect when a child puts forward his views in front of elders.
“ASK YOUR DAD FOR PERMISSION”
You’re teaching your children that only the men of the house have the power to make decisions.It would be even better if dads tell their kids to ask for permission from their moms.
