Only girls should practice cooking

Cooking is something only girls should do

Indian mothers are always under a lot of stress, most of which is apparently because of their daughters. If the daughter is not married yet and on top of it, the stress multiplies itself 10 times. One another priority is that the girl should definitely know cooking.

Since childhood we gift our little girl’s tea sets and want them to have imaginary tea parties, while on the other hand, we give our little boys monster trucks and cars, encouraging them to start racing even before they know what that means.when these children grow up, the girls are expected to help in the kitchen and set up the table while the boys can easily escape without taking part in the whole process.

When a marriage is fixed in India, the grooms who know how to cook are presented as multi-talented and the brides who do not know how to cook are presented as someone who lacks a certain aspect. Before you all think I’m a typical feminist I want you to read further.Cooking is a basic skill which everyone should know regardless of their gender.Even if you have maids, they take leaves and ordering every other day means wasting a lot of money. At least making an omelet is something everyone should know.Just know how to cook to save your life.

But while everyone should know how to cook to survive not everyone should know to cook full-fledged family meals. This depends ideally on interest, regardless of your gender. Some women love to cook, they find it relaxing. But some women say that cooking is the last thing that would interest them. They should not be made to feel that there is something wrong with them.Similarly, there are men who love to cook but most of the times limit themselves because they feel shy to do so.

Everything is a personal choice and it should be.Some people like to work while some don’t, some people like to party while some don’t, some people like to shop others don’t.It’s not that there is something wrong with the people who don’t like basic things.Just like this cooking is a personal choice, not something that we are supposed to adapt to the societal pressure.

BTW I hate cooking !! And I’m glad I got such a supportive set of both parents and in-laws who don’t even push me to do the same.

Do let me know if you have faced a similar situation or have been through the same.
